BSAVA Manual of Small Animal Ophthalmology

This new Manual builds on the success of the first edition of the BSAVA Manual of Small Animal Ophthalmology.

Thisnnew edition begins with a clear and concise guide to the examination ofnthe eye. Using the techniques described and the lists of differentialndiagnoses provided in Appendix I, it should be possible for ocularnlesions to be identified and localized with precision. Chapters onnimaging techniques (radiography, ultrasonography, CT and MRI) andnlaboratory investigations follow.

New to this edition arenchapters on anaesthesia and surgery. Basic principles such as tissuenseparation and suturing are described and illustrated with speciallyncommissioned drawings.

Ocular conditions of dogs and cats arencovered in chapters on specific regions, progressing from the adnexan(orbit and periorbital regions, eyelids and lacrimal system) to the eyenitself, and thence to the connections between the eye and the brain.nEach chapter starts with a short section that considers the relevantnanatomy and physiology of that portion of the eye. Following anconsideration of diagnostic tests, clinical features are described andnillustrated by a wealth of high-quality full-colour images. Medical andnsurgical management are then discussed for each condition. Conditionsnof the dog and cat are mostly considered separately, except where therenare close similarities.

The last two chapters of the Manualnbriefly describe ocular conditions of rabbits and exotic speciesn(primates, rodents, birds, reptiles and fish), with emphasis on thencommoner disorders and those that differ markedly from the conditionsnalready described for the dog and cat.

The Manual is a practicalnconsulting room guide to small animal ophthalmology, but there isnsufficient detail to satisfy those who wish to study this fascinatingnspecialty in greater depth.
