This unique atlas on Bovine Anatomy combines the advantages of both
topographical and systems based methods of anatomy. Each page of text
faces a full page of realistic illustrations in colour. The
topographical treatment of parts of the body is accompanied by
illustrations of the bones, joints, muscles, organs, blood vessels,
nerves, and lymph nodes of each part. Information tables on the
muscles, lymph nodes, and peripheral nerves provide brief data
referenced to the text. The illustrations were drawn from dissections
especially prepared for that purpose, and instructions are given for
the dissections. Particular attention is paid to the histology, growth,
and function of the bovine hoof, based on extensive research. In
addition to the gross anatomy of the udder, its development, histology,
and function are described and illustrated. One chapter is devoted to
the pathology, pathogenesis, and molecular biology of bovine spongiform
encephalopathy, scrapie of sheep and goats, and chronic wasting disease
of American deer and elk.
